Hong Kong Observatory Hosted Meeting of the Pearl River Delta Working Group on Aviation Meteorology

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) hosted the 16th Meeting of the Pearl River Delta Working Group on Aviation Meteorology at its headquarters on 27–28 November 2025. The meeting brought together representatives from the Aviation Meteorological Centre and the Middle South Regional Air Traffic Management Bureau of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, and HKO to review collaborative efforts in enhancing aviation weather services across the Pearl River Delta region.

The meeting focused on discussing recent advancements in aviation meteorology, including significant convection nowcasting, turbulence and wind shear monitoring, AI-supported observation and forecasting systems, and application of phased array weather radar in weather monitoring. Participants also jointly outlined key priorities for the coming year, with a focus on strengthening aviation weather forecasting capabilities through integrating innovative technologies and regional coordination to support safe and efficient flight operations across the region.
