Cadets of the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps visited the Observatory

6 February 2025

On 4 February 2025, cadets of the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps enjoyed a visit to the Observatory. The Observatory colleagues explained to the cadets the mechanism of wind shear and turbulence formation, as well as the associated alerting methods. The cadets also took the opportunities to visit the Meteorological Garden at the Observatory Headquarters and learned about various meteorological instruments.

After visiting the Headquarters, the cadets proceeded to the Tai Lam Chung Terminal Doppler Weather Radar Station to experience firsthand how the Doppler weather radar effectively monitors the weather near the airport and detects wind shear and microburst caused by severe convective weather.
