Email Notification on Operationally Significant Weather Condition in TAF

The aerodrome forecast for the Hong Kong International Airport, named Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF), is exchanged internationally in code form according to the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization. TAF issued by the Airport Meteorological Office of the Hong Kong Observatory provides forecast for the next 30 hours including forecast of wind, gust, visibility, significant weather and cloud. To expedite airline management to extract weather information crucial to their operations, airline users can now subscribe to the email notification service to alert them of operationally significant weather conditions given in TAF. Subscribers will receive an email when any one of the following criteria is met in the TAF:

Weather Element Criteria
Mean Wind >= 30 KT
Cross Wind >= 25 KT
Squalls due to Thunderstorms > 25 KT
Gusts >= 40 KT
Visibility <=2000 m

When the criteria are no longer met in the latest TAF, a "CANCEL" email will be sent to the subscribers. Below is a sample of the email sent to the aviation users during the passage of Typhoon Goni for alerting them of high crosswind and wind speed.  The original TAF message will also be incorporated in the email:
