29th Meeting of the Liaison Group on Aviation Weather Services

The 29th Meeting of the Liaison Group on Aviation Weather Services was held at the Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters on 22 February 2008. The meeting discussed the Observatory's plan to support the rapid air traffic growth as well as to dovetail with the replacement of the air traffic control (ATC) system of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD). This includes the upgrading of the aviation meteorological facilities, the development of additional terminal weather products and route-specific weather forecast, etc. In addition, the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar has been serving the airport for more than 10 years and is approaching the end of its expected life span. There is a need to acquire a new radar as backup and replacement-in-line. The participants welcomed these plans to further strengthen Hong Kong's aviation meteorological services.
