Hong Kong’s numbered tropical cyclone warning signal system was first implemented in 1917, and records of the signals before World War II (1917–1941) were scattered across various historical reports and newspapers. With the assistance of a group of enthusiastic retired colleagues and volunteers, the Observatory recovered the historical records of tropical cyclone signals in Hong Kong before World War II, and launched a webpage to display these precious pre-World War II historical records.
For details about the recovery of the records, please refer to the Observatory’s Blog.
