17 December 2008
Mr. M.K. Bhatnagar, Director of Aviation Services of the India Meteorological Department, came to Hong Kong on 23 November 2008 to learn about the Observatory's provision of aviation weather services. He visited the Airport Meteorological Office, the Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) system at the airport and the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) at Tai Lam Chung. He was particularly impressed by the LIDAR and TDWR which are the core components of the Observatory's windshear alerting system for the airport. Mr. Bhatnagar expressed his gratitude on the Observatory's sharing of experience on windshear alerting and indicated that the information obtained could help his work in setting up similar systems in India.
