23 November 2009
The Master of GAPAN, Rear Admiral Colin Cooke-Priest from the
United Kingdom
, President of Hong Kong region of GAPAN, Captain John Li, and their members visited the Observatory on
5 November 2009
. In the past years, GAPAN has been actively participating in the Observatory's liaison group on aviation weather services but this is the first time the Master of GAPAN visits the Observatory. They made a tour to the Airport Meteorological Office and LIght Detection and Ranging System (LIDAR) at the
Hong Kong
International
Airport
, and to the Central Forecasting Office and History Room at the Observatory's Headquarters. The visitors showed great interest in the big contrast of the antique weather instruments in the History Room and the most advanced aviation weather systems, witnessing the long history of the Observatory's developments.
The Director, Dr Li Boon-ying (2nd from the right), presented a souvenir to the Master of GAPAN, Rear Admiral Colin Cooke-Priest (2nd from the left).
