An Exchange Visit to the Civil Aviation Administration of China by the Observatory's Aeronautical Meteorological Personnel
30 July 2012
Three frontline aeronautical meteorological personnel, led by Mr. P.S. Ho, Senior Experimental Officer, visited the Meteorological Centre of the Central and Southern Regional Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB) of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) at the Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou, and the Shenzhen Air Traffic Management Station of CAAC during 3-6 July. The activity kicked off the regular exchange visit of the Observatory's frontline aeronautical meteorological personnel to the mainland counterparts. It was a new thrust under the framework of the long-term cooperation in aviation meteorological services with the ATMB of CAAC with a view to promoting exchanges in professional knowledge and sharing of experience in aviation meteorology. The Observatory's colleagues found the trip to Guangzhou and Shenzhen very fruitful. It enhanced their understanding of the operation, research, training and severe weather monitoring of the mainland aeronautical meteorological counterparts. They also shared information on how the Observatory enhances aviation weather forecast services for terminal area in support of air traffic management and operational decision-making.
