Shanghai Meteorological Bureau Forecasters attended the Observatory's aviation meteorology course on low-level flying

Shanghai Meteorological Bureau forecasters Miss Chen Qi and Mr Li Bai-ping attended an aviation meteorology course on low-level flying at the Hong Kong Observatory during 22-26 April this year. The course covered the Observatory's latest developments of windshear and turbulence alerting services, the impact of significant weather on low-level flying, significant convection monitoring and short-term forecasting, and forecast verification. Besides course work, they also visited the Observatory's Airport Meteorological Office (AMO), Civil Aviation Department's Air Traffic Control Centre and Air Traffic Control Tower to better appreciate the air traffic control service within the Hong Kong Flight Information Region and the regulations of low-level flying in Hong Kong. Through the attachment to AMO, they got better insights into Observatory's meteorological facilities and services. Miss Chan and Mr Li commented that the course was very informative and useful. The material can be used as good reference for their planning of providing meteorological services to low-level flying in mainland China.
