Tropical Cyclone Impact Data
Tropical Cyclone Impact Data
Tropical Cyclone Impact Data was consolidated based on relevant data/information documented in the Tropical Cyclone Annual Publications since 1988. The dataset consists of tropical cyclone warning signal records, key meteorological and tidal data at different stations (e.g. maximum wind speed/direction, total rainfall, minimum mean sea level pressure, maximum sea level, storm surge, etc.), casualties, and socio-economic impact data. The metadata and format of the impact dataset are listed in the data dictionary.
Disclaimer:
[1] The casualty, damage and social impact data in the dataset are based on the records or press reports at the time and may not be exhaustive.
[2] The estimated direct economic losses in the dataset are based on the best available information from the responses of government departments, public utilities and other organizations to the survey conducted by the Hong Kong Observatory, statistics on insurance claims collected from the members of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers and other relevant government reports at the time of assessment. The estimates are for reference only as the data collection is by no means exhaustive and may be subject to various limitations in the survey responses and analysis method.
