    These officers were commended for their contribution in the completed renovation of the Cheung Chau Meteorological Station (CCMS), despite its remote locality and inaccessibility, and successful organization of ‘the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of numbered tropical cyclone signals in Hong Kong’ publicity event on 7 June 2017.

    This officer was commended for her production of the winning design for the ESCAP/ WMO Typhoon Committee 50th Anniversary Logo, which has already been adopted for use by the Typhoon Committee Secretariat in the official communication and publicity materials leading up to the celebration events. This honor has enhanced the image of the Observatory as well as the profile of Hong Kong, China as a founding Member of the Typhoon Committee.

    These officers were commended for their whole-hearted effort in conducting urgent repair of equipment in tide gauges in Tai Miu Wan and Shek Pik, which were damaged by Severe Typhoon Hato on 23 August. The team had efficiently resumed the operation of the two tide gauges before Severe Tropical Storm Pakhar approached Hong Kong on 27 August. They have ensured the availability of real-time tidal information.

    These officers were commended for their dedicated effort in maintaining the operations of both Tai Mo Shan Weather Radar and Tate’s Cairn Weather Radar during the passage of Severe Typhoon Hato. When Tate’s Cairn Weather Radar ceased operation due to power disruptions caused by Hato, they took prompt actions to ensure uninterrupted supply of radar image data and products. They have safeguarded the Observatory’s Tropical Cyclone Warning Services from the influence of Hato.

    These officers were commended for their impressive contribution in conducting an urgent repair of the tide gauge on Waglan Island, which was damaged by Severe Typhoon Hato on 23 August. They conducted the repair on 26 August which was a non-working day and resumed normal operation of the tide gauge before the approach of Severe Tropical Storm Pakhar. Their effort has ensured the Observatory’s ability to provide storm surge monitoring and forecasting services in securing public safety.

    These officers were commended for their timely and effective communication with different stakeholders and the public on the Observatory’s decisions and relevant information of issuing Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals during the passage of Severe Typhoon Hato. As Hato posed serious threat to Hong Kong and necessitated the issuance of Hurricane Signal No. 10, their support minimized the impact of Hato. Their dedicated effort has been indispensable in assuring public safety.

    These officers were commended for their devoted effort in ensuring the smooth operation of Airport Meteorological Office (AMO) during the close approach of Severe Typhoon Hato. Hato necessitated the issuance of Hurricane Signal No. 10 and over 900 flights were delayed or cancelled. They kept different stakeholders and the public well informed of the weather situation and possible impact to air traffic and airport operation, which has minimized the impact of Hato to air traffic.

    These officers were commended for their outstanding contribution in planning, coordinating and executing the migration of Airport Meteorological Office (AMO) operation to Ancillary Airport Meteorological Office (AAMO). Despite the complexity of the tasks, they worked closely together and outside office hours to ensure the smooth and seamless migration of AMO to AAMO and efficient cleanup of AMO for subsequent refurbishment works.

    These officers were commended for providing unfailing and continuous logistic support in arranging central briefings and ensured timely delivery of central briefings to media and social media platforms throughout the approach of Severe Typhoon Hato, Severe Tropical Storm Pakhar and Severe Tropical Storm Mawar between 22 August and 4 September. They also handled large amount of phone enquiries after passage of the tropical cyclones.

    These officers were commended for their work in developing, testing and implementing a new method to mount anemometers in weather buoys, which had significantly enhanced the occupational safety of staff of the Observatory, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department and Marine Department who had to conduct maintenance works for the weather buoys.

She was always able to locate the crux of the incoming enquiries, provide immediate support and coordinate responses with colleagues from other divisions in a highly distinguished manner.     These officers were commended for their prompt action in starting the maintenance and diagnosis work of Tai Mo Shan weather radar early before the issuance of Typhoon Cyclone Standby Signal No.1 for TC Khanun. In view of the complexity of the problem, they worked for long hours to carry out thorough checking and investigation and successfully resumed the normal operation of the radar.

They had equipped King’s Park with MAC’s functionalities and enabled effective communication of colleagues working in King’s Park MAC with other government departments and the Observatory’s counterparts during emergency situations.
