    This officer had demonstrated strong sense of responsibility and creativity in taking charge of producing several popular Cool Met Stuff episodes.  Some were taken during her private time. These CMS episodes were well received by the public with record breaking view statistics and wide positive media coverage.  Her effort has helped building the positive public image of the Observatory

    Super Typho Mangkhut came within about 100KM from Hong Kong on 16.9.2018, necessitating the issuance of Hurricane Signal No. 10. While the storm surge of Manghkut has caused serious flooding and the ferocious winds of Mangkhut has blown down many trees disrupting the traffic, the degree of damage in Hong Kong has been kept to a minimum with the dedicated efforts of the nominated colleagues. The team was commended for their substantial contribution in enhancing the image of the Observatory as being a dependable and trustworthy authority in forecasting and warning of tropical cyclones.

    The close approach of Super Typhoon Mangkhut had necessitated the issuance of Hurricane Signal No. 10.  The team was commended for their substantial contribution in providing reliable supportive service before the approach of Mangkhut and to colleagues who had to be on duty during Typhoon Signal No. 8, 9 and 10 :

    The team was commended for their effort in enhancing the resilience of  tide level system before the approach of Mangkhut, and closely monitored the operation of individual tide gauge and activated backup arrangement as necessary during the passage of Mangkhut. Their concerted effort had maintained the operation of tide gauge network and ensured that the relevant data could be delivered in real-time during the passage of Mangkhut.

    The team was commended for their effort in working at Tai Mo Shan Radar (TMSR) station and Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) at Brothers Point for over 48 hours during the passage of Super Typhoon Mangkhut and ensured the smooth operation of the station equipment under tough weather conditions. RSM team to take prompt actions in repairing the damaged facilities before the onset of next rainy episode. The station and set up cordon off area to avoiding injuries. Their dedication and prompt actions safeguarded the provision of radar image data and image products to the Observatory and the general public.

    The team was commended for their effort in conducting preventive and corrective maintenance on various systems and equipment, including automatic upper-air sounding system, Sham Shui Po wing profiler; and AWS at King’s Park, Ping Chau, Kau Sai Chau and Hok Tsui, before and after Mangkhut to ensure high data availability.

    The team was commended for their effort in attending shift duties at King’s Park Meteorological Station during the passage of Mangkhut to operate the upper-air sounding systems under extreme wind conditions.  The collected data provided useful information for forecasters to assess the evolution of weather before, during and after the storm passage.
