Observatory launches a new mobile application iCWeatherOS to enrich public interest in weather observation

8 August 2013

The Hong Kong Observatory launched today (8 August 2013) a new mobile application on iPhone platform with an aim to enrich the interest in weather by members of the public through first-hand experience in carrying out weather observations.

The new mobile application, named iCWeatherOS, provides a one-stop platform for users to take weather photos as well as report and upload weather observations to their Facebook or Weibo personal pages. It also allows users to view the weather observations made by others. At present, the application groups weather observations under four different themes, viz. Visibility, Cloud, Weather and Tropical Cyclone. Background information on these specific themes is available for facilitating users to carry out weather observations. Members of the public are mostly welcomed to submit weather observations related to those themes for sharing of interesting weather photos and knowledge. Some fun facts on weather are also provided in the mobile application for general educational purpose. Further enhancements and Andriod version will be coming.
