Latest Developments in Global Climate Change

    Eliza Chan Man-yee

In February and April 2022, respectively, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published the Working Group II contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, “This link will open in a new windowClimate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability”, and the Working Group III Report, “This link will open in a new windowClimate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change” . The reports point out that climate change caused by humans, including the resulting more frequent and intense extreme events, has exceeded natural climate variability, causing a wide range of negative impacts on humans and nature, as well as related losses and destruction. The average annual emissions of global greenhouse gases from 2010 to 2019 is at the highest level in human history. Without immediate and effective emission reduction, the climate goal of the Paris Agreement will not be achieved.
