Tornado at Chek Lap Kok
A small tornado occurred at Chek Lap Kok at about 4:20 p.m. on 25 September, lasting about 20 minutes. This happened as an easterly airstream arrived at Hong Kong International Airport, and converged with the prevailing westerly wind, producing a vortex that formed a tornado. (More……)
Nangka x Monsoon
On 13 October, Tropical Cyclone Nangka necessitated the issuance of Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 8 in Hong Kong. There were three main reasons for issuing Typhoon Signal No. 8: (1) High winds were predicted; (2) High ground and offshore areas would be affected by high winds; and (3) Squalls and heavy rain were predicted. Mangkhut Out, Krathon In
According to convention, the Typhoon Committee retires the names of tropical cyclones which have caused serious casualties and economic losses, and, as everybody had expected, Mangkhut has been replaced – by Krathon. (More……)
