“Fuxi” AI model forecasts added to the “Earth Weather” webpage

Ho Chun-kit

The Observatory enhanced the contents of the “Earth Weather” webpage in May 2024. In addition to existing forecast products from the European Centre of Medium-range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) model and an Artificial Intelligence (AI) weather prediction model dubbed “Pangu”, products of another AI model – “Fuxi” (“Fuxi model”) – have been added to the page. The Fuxi model forecasts include wind, air temperature, relative humidity, mean sea-level pressure and rainfall for the coming 15 days.

Seizing the opportunities arising from recent developments in AI, the Observatory has continued to actively introduce and use AI-powered weather prediction models to serve as references in preparing weather forecasts.

The model forecast that an area of rain would affect the coastal areas of Guangdong on the morning of 1 May.
