Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Meeting on Cooperation in Meteorological Operations Convened in Guangzhou

The 29th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao (GHM) Meeting on Cooperation in Meteorological Operations and the 37th GHM Seminar on Meteorological Science and Technology were held on 13 and 14 March 2025 in the World Meteorological Centre Beijing Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Branch, Guangzhou. Representatives from the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Guangdong Meteorological Service (GMS), Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), Guangxi Meteorological Service and Hainan Meteorological Service attended the meeting.

In the cooperation meeting on 13 March, the GHM authorities not only reviewed the progress of their work over the past year and discussed future cooperation plans, but also held special meetings to discuss the meteorological support services for the 15th National Games and the compilation of meteorological history for Hong Kong and Macao. Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the GHM Lightning Location Network, Dr Cao Xiaozhong, Deputy Administrator of the CMA; Mr Zhuang Xudong, Director General of the GMS; Mr Leong Weng-kun, Director of the SMG; and Dr Chan Pak-wai, Director of the HKO celebrated the occasion. The three parties look forward to continued collaboration to enhance services in the GBA and make significant contributions to disaster prevention in the region.

In the technology seminar, meteorological experts from the three parties presented a total of 31 papers on topics covering summaries and analyses of weather events, applications of artificial intelligence, and high-impact weather forecasting and forecast technology. During the meeting, experts showed great interest in the reports, actively asking questions and engaging in discussions, resulting in fruitful exchanges.
