Enhanced significant convection information for air traffic management
The "Significant Convection Monitoring and Forecast" webpage on AMIDS has been revamped to include more relevant weather information to facilitate air traffic management. The satellite deep convection product was replaced by a "satellite-simulated-radar" product that applied machine-learning algorithm to advanced satellite data for better weather awareness for regions in the flight information region beyond the radar range; the nowcast for arrival/departure corridors has been extended to 2 hours on the request of air traffic flow management unit of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD); and what used to be the Capacity Notification on airport acceptance rate was replaced by the informative ATFM Daily Plan which is issued three times daily by CAD after weather consultation of the weather briefings provided by Airport Meteorological Office.
