HKO supporting HKIA wake turbulence measurement campaign
Drawing on its rich expertise in LIDAR operation as well as experience in conducting the first wake vortex observations at HKIA, HKO is partnering with AAHK in taking forward a year-long wake turbulence measurement campaign in support of the RECAT-EU (European Wake Vortex Re-categorisation) Local Safety Case Study.
A set of four dedicated short-range LIDAR (SRL) units have been installed in strategic locations around HKIA for making continuous measurements and detailed analyses of aircraft wake behaviour at arrival and departure corridors. Results are expected to provide scientific support for the safe reduction of wake turbulence separation minima under the RECAT-EU concept.
