To foster interests of the public on astronomy, the Hong Kong Space Museum and the Hong Kong Observatory cooperate to compile an astronomical photo album on the web. Various kinds of astronomical photos are taken with the iObservatory at Lady MacLehose Holiday Village and other instruments of the Space Museum, and are publicized through the Observatory's website. |

There float in the vast reaches of our Solar System swarms of sand bits and dust clods known as meteoroids. When these "space debris" tear into the Earth's atmosphere, air friction causes them to burn, forming meteors that blaze across the sky. A "meteor shower" occurs when our home planet encounters a relatively dense region of meteoroids in space (such as the substances released from a comet). |
