The Observatory and Meteo-France sign MOU to mark closer ties

25 March 2015

The Hong Kong Observatory and Meteo-France signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 24 March 2015 on closer co-operation between the two organisations. This is the first MOU that the Observatory establishes with a European meteorological service.

Over the past years, the Observatory and Meteo-France have been working closely on various aspects of aviation and public weather services. The signing of the MOU is expected to promote further experience sharing on latest topics of development, including future exchange of aviation-related weather information, and real-time uplinking of aviation-specific meteorological products for pilots. The MOU also opens the possibility to technical exchange on such areas as the forecasting of severe convection, use of very high resolution numerical weather prediction model, as well as detection and alerting of low-level windshear using LIDAR technology.

Through closer collaboration, the two organisations look forward to further contributions to the global development of meteorological services.
