Hong Kong Observatory and Hainan Meteorological Bureau Sign Co-operation Plan

Under the framework of the “ Arrangement in Long-term Co-operation in Meteorological Science and Technology " between the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), the HKO and the Hainan Meteorological Bureau signed a Co-operation Plan in Haikou on 9 November 2017. This aims to enhance co-operation and interflow between the two parties in areas of common interest, including nowcasting techniques, tropical cyclone observation and warning, as well as meteorological data exchange, with a view to jointly advancing the development of meteorological science and services. Dr. Cheng Cho-ming, Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, represented HKO to sign the Co-operation Plan.

During 9-10 November and 11 November, the “China-ASEAN Meteorological Disaster Prevention Workshop” and the “Forum on the Weather of the South China Sea” were convened back to back in Haikou. Dr. Cheng, along with two Scientific Officers, were invited to participate in these two conferences and report on the new challenges and opportunities associated with alerting of hazardous weather, modernization of weather services, international co-operations, as well as aviation meteorological services.
