Sea current forecast now available on “Earth Weather” and “Meteorological Information for Fishermen” webpages

    Chow Chi-kin

To help the shipping community, fishing sector and people engaging in maritime operations and activities in the South China Sea or western North Pacific better appreciate the changes in sea currents in the region, sea current forecasts for the next 96 hours produced by the Observatory’s Operational Marine Forecasting System were added to the “Earth Weather” and “Meteorological Information for Fishermen” webpages, as well as on the “MyObservatory” mobile app early this year. Users may select different grids on the GIS interface to show information on sea current forecasts. The directions of sea currents are displayed in an animation mode that is clear and easy to understand.
