Meeting on meteorological cooperation between Hong Kong Observatory and Thai Meteorological Department in Bangkok

The Director of the Observatory, Dr Chan Pak-wai, led a delegation with four representatives to Bangkok for a meeting on meteorological cooperation with the Director-General of the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), Ms Kornrawee Sitthichivapak, and her colleagues, held on 12 July 2024.

The meeting reviewed the recent cooperation between the two organisations covered in a memorandum of understanding, including weather forecasting, telecommunications, aeronautical meteorology, marine meteorology and international cooperation. There was also an in-depth discussion regarding the plans for collaboration in the next couple of years, and a consensus was reached. Through close collaboration, the two organisations strive to make concrete progress in strengthening technical exchanges and further enhancing meteorological services, thus contributing to the United Nations’ Early Warnings for All initiative against natural disasters.

The Hong Kong Observatory delegation met with the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) at their Headquarters. The eighth and the ninth from the right are Dr Chan Pak-wai, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, and Ms Kornrawee Sitthichivapak, Director-General of the TMD, respectively.
