Latest developments in global climate change

    Eliza Chan Man-yee

In addition to being the warmest year on record, 2023 has set new records for global mean sea level and global ocean heat content. The average growth rate of the former increased to 4.77 millimetres per year from 2014 to 2023, which is more than twice the average growth rate from 1993 to 2002. In addition, the sea ice coverage around Antarctica reached a record low on 21 February 2023.

The global climate is undergoing rapid changes. To mitigate climate change, we must work together to practice low-carbon living, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and achieve carbon neutrality globally as soon as possible.
