Christy Leung Yan-yu

Mr Wong Chau-ping, Senior Experimental Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory, was an invited speaker for the “Volcanic Ash Impact Handling for Aviation” workshop, held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, during 13 to 17 November 2023. Mr. Wong shared the experience of the Observatory’s Airport Meteorological Office with issuing Volcanic Ash Significant Weather Information (VA SIGMET), introduced the diverse monitoring tools employed for tracking volcanic ash and monitoring hotspots, and demonstrated how to effectively utilise the SIGMET Coordination Platform developed by the Observatory. The Observatory will continue sharing its experience with other meteorological agencies, and contributing to aviation weather services.
