Hong Kong Observatory Participates in the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Disaster Mitigation System
The Senior Scientific Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory, Lam Ching-chi, joined the Chinese delegation attending the 30th Session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS-XXX) under the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held in Nuku'alofa, Tonga from 11 to 15 September 2023, and the 11th Meeting of the ICG/PTWS Regional Working Group on Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System in the South China Sea Region (WG-SCS XI) in Guangzhou over 25 and 26 September. A Hong Kong Observatory delegation visited the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics of the Republic of Indonesia (BMKG) and established a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on strengthening meteorological cooperation between Hong Kong and Indonesia. (More……)
Hong Kong Observatory Delegation Visited Partner Authorities in Guangzhou
The Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Dr Chan Pak-wai, led the Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Chan Sai-Tick, and the Senior Scientific Officer, Lam Ching-chi, to Guangzhou on 15 August 2023, to visit the Middle South Regional Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB) of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), Guangdong Earthquake Agency (GEA) and the South China Sea Bureau (SCSB) of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR). The Observatory Organised a Workshop on Forecasting Hazardous Weather for Aviation
The Observatory organised an Online Workshop on Forecasting Hazardous Weather for Aviation during 4 to 6 July 2023. Through experts’ sharing and discussions with more than 270 participants from 24 States/Administrations in the Asia and Pacific (APAC) Region, the workshop aimed to improve hazardous weather forecasting for aviation, for both airports and the flight information region in the APAC Region. Observatory Collaborated with Ho Koon Nature Education Centre to Organise Weather Quiz Competition
Since 2014, the Observatory has collaborated with Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre to organise weather related competitions. In recent years, the competitions had to be held online due to the pandemic. The onsite competitions could resume this year. (More……)
